Flaky end-to-end tests: 10 causes and how to fix each one
Why end-to-end tests pass and fail without code changes, and concrete fixes for timing, locators, test data, dates, environments and animations.
Record a flow working on your web app and upload the video. ReplayQA's AI writes the steps, proves them in a real Chromium browser, and saves a test you can replay on every release. No test code, no AI on every run.
Works with any screen recorder and any web app you can open in Chrome.
AI does the slow part once: understanding what happened in the video. After that, your test is ordinary browser automation that runs the same way every time.
Record one flow on your site with any screen recorder, such as signing up, checking out or creating a record, and upload the MP4 or WebM.
A vision model reads the video once and drafts each click, typed value, selection, date and the result to check. Passwords are never read from video.
ReplayQA repeats the steps in Chromium on your site, fixing element matches as it goes. If every step passes, the test is saved. You can watch it live.
Play one test or a whole suite whenever you ship. Runs are plain Playwright with no AI calls, with screenshots, video and a trace for every step.
Regression suites usually die from maintenance, not from writing them. These features keep tests running after the first week.
Elements are found by role, label and visible text first, like a person would, with test IDs and fallbacks. Every run records which match was used.
See the frame from your video beside the screenshot from the run, with the failure classified as functional, locator, timing, environment or data.
When a button was only renamed or moved, ReplayQA proposes the fix as a new draft. Approved tests never change behind your back.
Native date fields, typed dates and calendar popups with month and year navigation are handled, along with dropdowns, checkboxes, menus and dialogs.
Group tests by project, switch between sites from the sidebar, and keep separate test logins for staging and production.
Test logins are stored encrypted and typed in at run time. Passwords are masked in screenshots, videos and logs.
Run whole suites in parallel, retry only the failures, and see which tests pass and fail without a code change.
Runs can only reach your site's allowed hosts. Private networks and cloud metadata endpoints are blocked.
Replays never use AI, so they never touch your AI allowance. Plans include runs, and anything extra is opt-in and capped.
Hand-written Playwright or Cypress tests are powerful but slow to write. Classic record-and-playback tools are fast but brittle. ReplayQA aims for the speed of one and the reliability of the other.
| ReplayQA | Hand-written Playwright / Cypress | Classic record & playback | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time to a first test | Minutes: upload a video | Hours: write and debug code | Minutes: record in a browser plugin |
| Who can create tests | Anyone who can use the app | Engineers | Anyone with the plugin |
| Proved before it's saved | Yes, in a real browser | When you run it | Rarely |
| Element matching | Role, label and text first | Whatever the author wrote | Often CSS paths or XPath |
| When the UI changes | Suggested fix you approve | Edit the code | Re-record |
| AI cost per run | None | None | None, or on every step in AI-driven tools |
| Infrastructure | Hosted browsers | Your CI and browsers | Varies |
No. You upload a screen recording of a flow working on your site. ReplayQA writes the steps, proves them in a real browser and saves the test. You can edit any step in a form if you want to, but you never have to touch code.
One flow from start to finish, the way a user does it, ending on the result you expect, such as an order confirmation or a saved record. Any screen recorder works (MP4 or WebM). If the address bar is visible, ReplayQA reads the starting page from it; otherwise you type it in.
No. AI reads the video once to write the draft. The validation run only uses AI again as a last resort, if an element can't be matched. After the test is saved, every Play run is plain Playwright in Chromium: no AI involved, and the same steps every time.
ReplayQA never takes a password from the video. You add a test login for each site once; it's stored encrypted and typed in at run time. Passwords are masked in screenshots and logs.
The run fails with a side-by-side view of what the step expected and what the page showed, and a plain-English reason (functional, locator, timing, environment or data). When a button was only renamed or moved, ReplayQA proposes a fix as a new draft; nothing changes until you approve it.
Yes. Native date fields, typed date fields and calendar popups are all supported, including month and year navigation. Dropdowns, checkboxes, radio buttons, menus and in-page dialogs are covered as well. File uploads aren't supported yet.
Yes. Each project can have staging, production or any other environment, each with its own test logins. Upload a video of a different website and ReplayQA files it under that site automatically.
It doesn't replace exploratory, accessibility, performance or security testing, and it doesn't claim pixels alone prove backend state. It automates the regression checks you can show in a video.
You can try it free: turn one video into a test and replay it, no card needed. Paid plans include saved tests, test runs and AI-analyzed videos each month, and anything beyond that is opt-in and capped by a budget you set.
