Recording with the Chrome extension (optional)
The optional Chrome extension records the video plus every click and keystroke for more precise tests. What it captures, what it never does, and setup.
You don't need the extension: any screen recording works. But if you record in Chrome, the extension makes tests more precise, because it captures exactly which element you clicked and what you typed instead of inferring it from video.
What the extension captures
- The tab video, using Chrome's capture APIs (you choose the tab or window).
- Clicks, typing, selections, scrolls, key presses, focus and navigation, with timestamps.
- Each element's accessible name, role and stable ways to find it.
- Optional screenshots around meaningful moments.
What it never captures
- Password, payment, token or other sensitive field values. They become
{{secret:…}}placeholders, and you enter the real value once, as with uploaded videos. - Events on pages Chrome restricts (such as
chrome://pages and the Web Store) or in frames from other websites.
Connect it
- In ReplayQA, open Chrome extension (optional) from the sidebar (under Workspace).
- Follow the install instructions on that page.
- Press Connect extension. A short-lived token, limited to uploading recordings for this workspace, is handed to the extension. It's kept in the extension's private storage, never in web pages.
Record a flow
- Open the site you want to test in a Chrome tab.
- Start recording from the extension and choose that tab.
- Do the flow, end on the result, and stop recording.
The recording uploads to your workspace and becomes a test exactly like an uploaded video, with analysis followed by validation.
Disconnect
To disconnect every extension at once, for example after losing a laptop, go to your account settings and press Revoke all sessions. This also signs you out of other browsers.
