Core concepts
The building blocks of ReplayQA, including workspaces, projects, sites, recordings, tests, drafts, versions, runs and suites, and how they fit together.
A few terms come up throughout ReplayQA. Here's what each means and how they connect.
Workspace
└── Project (a website)
├── Sites: staging, production, … (each with test logins)
├── Recordings (your videos)
├── Tests (each with versions: draft → approved)
│ └── Runs (every time a test is played)
└── Suites (groups of tests you Play All at once)
Workspace
Your team's space in ReplayQA. Members, billing and settings belong to the workspace. You can belong to several workspaces and switch between them at the top of the sidebar.
Project
One website or app you test, such as your shop or your admin portal. Every test, recording and suite belongs to a project. Use the project switcher in the sidebar to focus on one project or see All projects at once. See Projects and sites.
Site (environment)
A copy of the project's website that tests can run against, such as Staging (https://staging.example.com) or Production. Each site has its own address, allowed hosts, browser settings and test logins. Manage them under Sites & test logins.
Recording
A video you uploaded (or captured with the optional Chrome extension). ReplayQA analyzes it once to draft a test. The recording stays linked to the test, so you can always compare a failure with what the video showed.
Test and steps
A test is a list of steps, each with an action (click, fill, select, check and so on), the element it acts on, and the value to type or choose. Steps can include checks (assertions), for example "text 'Order confirmed' is visible".
Draft, validation and approved versions
Tests are versioned:
- A draft is a proposed version, from the AI, from your edits or from a suggested fix.
- Validation runs the draft in a real browser. If it passes, the draft becomes the approved version.
- Approved versions never change. Editing a test creates a new draft, and the approved version keeps running until the new one is approved.
Run
One execution of a test on a site. A run is Queued, Running, then Passed, Failed, Timed out, Error, Skipped or Canceled. Every run keeps screenshots, a video and a trace. See Reading run results.
Suite
A named group of approved tests, such as "Smoke" or "Checkout", that you run together with Play All. See Suites and Play All.
